(Operator selected write permit)
This error message presumably occurs if you are writing on a CD-RW which has already been used or on a blank which your burner does not accept. In this case use another make of blank. You will find further information on this in: Problematic blanks. Another cause could be that you have formatted the blank with PacketWriting software and then want to burn on the CD with Nero data. The latter is not possible. Formatted CDs can only be written on with the corresponding PacketWriting software and before being used, should be deleted with Nero (delete slowly).
(CD is copyrighted)
If this error message appears within a dialog window, then presumably a CD with audio tracks is to be copied.
Please switch off the option 'read audio data with sub channel' in 'read options'.
This error message appears if the caching has failed due to lack of space and you repeat the burning process after space has been created on the harddisk.
If the cause mentioned applies, then this is a problem within Nero, which is still not fixed in Nero the up-to-date versions.
If you are using a Mitsumi 2200/2201 and this error message only appears while burning and not during the simulation. This error message apparently doesn't appear any more as of firmware 5546.
Please click on firmware update to 5546 or newer
(from: http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/~jwolf/2201CS/2201cs.html)
You are creating an audio CD and have included in your compilation one or more .CDA files from a CD which is in a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive. This problem appears until Nero version 4.0.5.0.
Please update to a newer Nero version.
(Illegal speed for this medium)
Before Nero is written on a blank, the CD Writer is asked if the blank inserted can be written on with the given speed. Some types of CD Writer then display the above mentioned error message.
Please use another make of blank which is seen as being suitable by the vendor of the CD burner or write at a slower speed. Further information: Problematic blanks.
(Application code mismatch)
Please in Cannot write - application code mismatch .
(Error reading Audio)
If you use Nero 4.0.5.6, then this is because precisely this Nero version sometimes has got problems reading faulty audio sectors. This problem has been solved in the next version.
Please download the newest Nero version from our WebSite.
(Parameter list length error)
If you are using a Mitsumi 4802TE at the USB port, then this is the cause. The current Nero version does not yet support this burner.
(Logical unit not ready, long write in progress)
This error message appears if the record internal buffer is full when starting to write a DAO CD. This error message is handled correctly as of Nero 4.0.0.5.
Please click on Nero Update to 4.0.0.5 or newer.
If you are already using a newer Nero version, then please turn the switch off the automatic .
Please also replace the IDE drivers with up-to-date ones or with the drivers from the "Standard-IDE/ESDI-Harddisk-Drive-Controller".
(Illegal mode for this track)
This error message only appeared so far for customers in which the CD Writer from Nero was approached incorrectly.
Please deinstall Nero and then install the most up-to-date Nero version.
This error message occurs if a Yamaha 100102 is being used and you try to burn more than 75 minutes in the DAO mode.
Do not burn more than 75 minutes.
Presumably the SCSI-cabling is not clean.
One customer was able to solve the problem after including a Pass Through Terminator between the cable and the burner. Please also look in SCSI cabling faulty and termination .
Please check if the error disappears if the audio correction is deactivated, in particular if it is a Mixed Mode CD in question, as some drives have problems with the read routines used by Nero . As of Nero 4.0.6.5 this problem should be solved to a large extent.
(Cannot write medium - incompatible format)
error message appears if you are burning a blank especially created for audio CDs. Numerous CD Writer can not write on this type of blank.
If this error message occurs, then please check if the CeQuadrat drivers C2REC.VXD and C2APIX.VXD are in the Windows\System\IOSUBSYS directory. If they are, please delete them or rename them (change the file extension to .VX_) and then restart the computer.
(Empty or partially written reserved track)
Please download the newest drivers from the Adaptec WebSite for your SCSI hostadapter and install them.
This error occurs if the CD Writer has go problems writing on CD-R/RW.
Please resort to another brand mark of CD-R/RW. Refer also to problematic CD-R/RW
If NT 4.0 SP4 a Symbios 8750 SCSI hostadapter is being used and a Yamaha CD Writer is being used, then the NT system is probably not fully functional.
Please reinstall NT
If you use one of the following types of CD Writer :
CalDigital CDR4X12, Mitsubishi CDVR4X12, Pinnacle RCD4X12, Smart&Friendly CD SpeedWriter (=CD-R4012),Teac CD-R55S, Traxdata CDRW 4120, Waitec WT412
then you are using a blank that the burner can not write on. Please use another make of blank. On this, please also refer to problematic CD-R/RW.
If you are using one of the following CD Writer :
Backpack CD-REWRITER-4B, Kodak 2801, Mitsumi CR-2800TE, Mitsumi CR-2801TE, Mitsumi CR-4801TE, Mitsumi CR-4802TE, Philips CDRW428
This error message occurs if the CD-R/RW inserted is not accepted by the CD Writer . One case is known in which the CD Writer did not accept the special Audio CD-Rs. In another case the CD-R/RW could only be written at 2x speed instead of 4x.
Please use a different brand mark of CD-R/RWs. Also refer to: problematic CD-R/RW
(Write error)
If you are using one of the following CD Writer :
Actima ARW-4420, Actima ARW-4420S, A-Open CRW9420, A-Open CRW9420S, Backpack CD-REWRITER-4D, Caravell RW-4420, Compro CDRW7040A, Delta OIP-RW2004A, Delta OIP-RW2004/B, Delta OMEW141, Imation CD-RW IMWO40420, Maxell MCD-RW44-20, Memorex CDRW-4420, Mitsubishi CDRW4420a, Ricoh MP7040A, Ricoh MP7040S
or another Ricoh CD Writer, then the following causes are known
Please resort to another make of CD-R/RWs.
In numerous cases it helps to upload the newest Firmware of the recorder. For the Ricoh MP7040 at least the firmware 1.30 should be uploaded. If this does not have the desired effect, please deactivate the busmaster operation (DMA) (On this, refer to How do you deinstall a busmaster driver?).
CDR4VSD.VXD (driver from Adaptec Easy CD)
CD_READ.VXD (driver for Iomega RecordIt)
(known case description: Ricoh MP6200 fw. 2.20S, ASPI 4.57(1013), when burning an audio CD)
If you use Nero Using 3.0 and a Ricoh MP 6200 (SCSI or IDE) or a compatible device to this appears when trying to copy a Mixed Mode CD:
Please click on Nero update to 3.0.7.1 or newer
Either the CD is scratched/dirty or you are copying a CD which has intentionally had defective blocks inserted in it so that the CD can't be copied.
If the CD really is scratched of dirty, then the CD should be polished. You can buy such a cleaning agent in the shops. Furthermore you should use a read device which has good error correction. For this, look at the test reports in the relevant computer magazines. If the CD has got copy protection, then presumably some blocks have got faulty check sums. In this case it is advisable to use a drive which skips such blocks comparatively quickly. However we are not allowed to make a recommendation.
Please read on in: What setting do you need to copy most CDs?
This error message only appears as a general rule if the SCSI cabling is not correct or the termination is faulty. But it could also be caused by drivers which have not been updated.
Please termination and check the SCSI cabling . And if necessary, download the newest driver for your SCSI controller and install it.
To solve the problem, see: Interplay between Nero and other CD burner programs and drivers of other CD burner programs.
Please remove the Real Mode drivers from the mentioned files.
Please check if drivers of other CD Writer programs are installed.
On this, see Interplay between Nero and other CD burner programs
and drivers of other CD burner programs
Here either a not documented error code is returned by CD Writer , or the meaning of the error code is not yet implemented in Nero or foreign drivers have caused this problem:
The following error codes are known (can be seen in the log file; the first value is the Sense Code
, the second the Sense Qual
):
Presumably you have got (or had) Easy CD installed. Could you please for test purposes rename the Easy CD driver CDR4VSD.VXD to CDR4VSD.VX_ and restart the computer? The driver can be found in the Windows\System\IOSUBSYS directory.
This error message is a No Seek Complete. An update of the WinASPI driver layer solved the problem for one user. Please also read in No Seek Complete according to the corresponding error description.
This error message was returned by a Mitsumi 4802TE which could be solved by deselecting the DMA Checkbox .
If this doesn't solve the problem:
Please remove the drivers of all other CD Writer programs.
On this, see Interplay between Nero and other CD burner programs and drivers of other CD burner programs
This error message is returned by Ricoh drives of the 7000 series and corresponds to the error: Illegal Speed for this Medium. Please update to a newer Nero version.
This error message was returned by a TEAC CDR50S. This error comes up if the burner has problems burning on the blank. Please resort to another make of blank. On this, see problematic CD-R/RW.
This error message was given by a Mitsumi 4801TE when an attempt was made to read from a badly scratched CD. The Mitsumi 4802TE or other Mitsumi CD-ROM drives will probably give the same error message on read errors.
This error message was issued by a Tevion MD9898 (Acer 4x4x32) at the start of simulation . In the only case known to us so far, it was possible to solve the problem by replacing the IDE driver with the (Standard-Harddisk-Drive) -> "Standard-IDE/ESDI-Harddisk-Drive--Controller".
