Yes.
There is a possibility to avoid repeated typing in.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning ROM\info
Do not end Reg Edit yet!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and add a new string entry, e.g.: NeroStart
The entry should be as follows:
regedit /s "<path to the above saved registration file>quot;
(/s = silent mode, this means that confirmation is not necessary.)
Now no user has to type in the serial number and the name any more.
Advice on deinstallation of Nero:
Please ensure that when deinstalling Nero , the file given in no. 3 is not deleted, i.e. the Nero directory remains. Apart from that, the registration entry created in 4 is not removed. The file or the registration entry must be removed manually.
Yes.
The procedure is the same as that in NT. Please read in In NT each user has to give the serial number. Can this be avoided?
If the read speed is unexpectedly slow, then one of the reasons applies, as given in The recognized read speed is unexpectedly slow .
There are numerousCDs, usually games CDs. which have the format data,audio,audio,...,data . This format is not specified. Some CD Writer can not burn this format. Only if the option ignore invalid TOC-type is set, does Nerotry to copy this kind of CD.
This means that a part of the audio filter has been developed by Syntrillium and is allowed to be used under licence in Nero . This doesn't mean that the filters don't appear in the Demo version.
Unfortunately, Nero doesn't always work correctly if busmaster drivers are installed.
In Windows 98 the busmaster operation can be deactivated for a certain drive by switching off the DMA-option in the Device Manager under CD-ROM (Start->Control Panel->System->Device Manager->CD-ROM->Properties-> DMA).
In some cases it helps to replace the busmaster driver with the Windows 95 standard driver. To do so, proceed as follows:
In Windows 95:
Start->Settings->Control Panel->System
There doubleclick on
Device Manager->Harddisk Drive Controller
In Windows 98:
Start->Settings->Control Panel->System
There doubleclick on
Device Manager->Harddisk Drive Controller
Show a list of the drivers in a certain directory to be selected
and then Continue.
Depending on the busmaster driver used, there are various procedures on how to best remove the busmaster driver:
A program can be downloaded from Intel to deinstall the Intel busmaster driver: ftp://download.intel.com/design/chipsets/drivers/busmastr/deinstbm.exe
(The program contains an installer and an uninstaller)
1. Deinstall the busmaster driver so that the Standard Dual PCI IDE Controller is entered in the Device Manager after a new start.
2. Install the busmaster driver again. You can get the respective newest version from ftp://download.intel.com/design/chipsets/drivers/busmastr/bmide_95.exe (currently only for Windows 95, for Windows 98 the busmaster driver included should be used)
3. During the thus necessary Reboot, start the computer in DOS by pressing the F8-key.
4. In the file ideatapi.inf
(can be found in the Windows\inf directory) in section [PIIX_HDC]
change the line below to the following entry:
%MF\\GOODSECONDARY.DeviceDesc% = BMIDE_CHILD, MF\\GOODSECONDARY
In section [DUAL_BMIDE.RegHW]
the new line is thus:
HKR,CHILD0001,HardwareID,,MF\GOODSECONDARY
5. Now start the computer again and the busmaster drivers will be recognized after the next Windows start, but are only available for the first channel.
6. Please check the following: In the case of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS
remove the entry NOIDE
if present. Then restart the system.
The busmaster drivers from VIA include a deinstallation routine. Just carry this out and us the Standard Dual PCI IDE Controller as the new driver for the harddisk controller.
The busmaster drivers or the drivers for the harddisk controller can be removed in the Device Manager. As Windows finds the ETEQ busmaster drivers next time it is started and installs them automatically, the INF-file of the ETEQ busmaster drive has to be removed from the Windows\INF directory. The INF file is called ETEQIDE.INF. Afterwards Windows should use the standard driver again ESDI_506.PDR).
In the case of these mainboards it makes most sense to connect the CD Writer and the CD-ROM drive to the secondary port and then to deactivate the busmaster driver for the secondary port
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\hdc
DriverDesc
attention is drawn to the fact that it is the secondary port. In PortDriver
is the name of the driver being used: sis
*.*. Change this entry to esdi_506.pdr
. Please also check that the ESDI_506.PDR file is also in the Windows\System\IOSUBSYS directory and if necessary copy it from the Windows 95/98 CD.Please change into the Windows\Inf directory and look for the Inf-file which includes the busmaster driver set-up. The file will have the name OEM#.INF. The # represents a number which has been allocated by Windows. Please use a Texteditor to look through all INF-files one by one until yopu have found the busmaster driver set-up for Tyan.
If you are using Windows 95b or Windows 95c:
Please change into directory Windows\Inf\Other and delete the file Tyanco~1.inf.
Note: If you do not delete the Inf-file, then Windows will redetect and use the old busmaster driver every time Windows is started.
This information is in Problems with the boot menu..
No.
The boot menu can only be used in Windows 95 and Windows 98.
You can not prevent the CD being ejected but you can delay it, i.e. the CD will not be ejected until the burn process has been confirmed.
This can be set in File->Preferences->Expert Features with the option do not eject the CD directly after burning.
Start->settings->Control Panel->Software->Install/Deinstall
Now Nero - Burning Rom .
and now the button Add/delete .
Just in case the entry Nero - Burning Rom is missing, please proceed as follows:
Then there is a registration error which is caused by deinstalling several software packets. The error is harmless (as far as we know) but it has the effect that the software list is empty.
Please open the registration editor and change to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Change there to Nero - Burning ROM
. The entry UninstallString
contains the command to deinstall Nero. Please mark this entry and copy it onto the clipboard. Now in Start -> execute. enter the marked entry and execute it.
As a general rule it is not advisable to deinstall Nero manually as the uninstaller of Nero carries out the deinstallation correctly as a general rule. If you have found this not to be the case, then you can also deinstall Nero manually. Please proceed as follows:
If you do not know where to find the directories mentioned, then you just have to look for the file NEROSHX.DLL (Start->Search->Files/Folders). In the directories found, there is either Nero or the Nero Multimounter
In Windows 95/98: NEROCD95.VXD (in the Windows\System\IOSUBSYS directory)
In Windows NT: NEROCDNT.SYS (in the WinNT\System32\drivers directory)
Right-click on start, then click on Explorer and finally in Explorer on Programs. In that, remove the entry Nero - Burning ROM .
If you are working in Windows NT or in Windows 95/98 with several profiles, then probably for every user of the link you have to Nero file can not be deleted yet. Here it is recommended to use Start->Search->Files/Folders to search for all files whose name starts with Nero - Burning ROM and to remove them.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Nero - Burning ROM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\nero.exe
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2E9D3540-211C-11d0-A5F2-00A0248C37BE}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers\{2E9D3540-211C-11d0-A5F2-00A0248C37BE}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved\{2E9D3540-211C-11d0-A5F2-00A0248C37BE}
(all in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT)
.cdc, .hdb, .nhf, .nra, .nrb, .nrg, .nrh, .nri, .nrm, .nru, .nrv
Then presumably all entries from NeroAudioType
until NeroVideoType
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ahead
If you are working in Windows NT or in Windows 95/98 with several profiles then you would have to delete the entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead
for each user
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Nero
or NeroStart
.
This entry exists if you have used the trick mentioned in
In NT each user has to give the serial number. Can this be avoided? or In Windows 95/98 with several profiles, every user has to enter the serial number. Can you avoid doing this? .
There are some CDs that create the impression that there is significantly more than 650 MB on the CD. Most of these CDs are games CDs. But it would appear that significantly more than 650MB of files fit on some Microsoft CDs.
You come to this conclusion if you mark all the files on the CD in Explorer.
The answer is relatively simple. In an index of directories as it is set up on a ISO9660 CD, it also includes among other things the names of the files, the size of the files and also where to find the file on the CD. The latter piece of information is a number. This number is designated as an address. In contrast to the file systems such as FAT and FAT32, two entries of files are allowed to point at one single address on the CD.
Presumably you are looking at a CD in CD-Info and are shown much too higher value. Please read in The dimensional information in CD-Info is much too high .
As a general rule, all SCSI hostadapters are supported by Nero . You should always make sure that the newest drivers have been installed. ISA controllers should not be used if you want to burn faster than 1x as on the one hand the ISA bus is too slow and on the other hand the priority of this bus is very low in a PCI system so that buffer underruns are a common problem in such systems.
The size of the CD with a harddisk backup is fixed at 74 minutes. Unfortunately rewriting the code to automatic size recognition would require a large number of changes in Nero . For this reason it has been decided not to change the code.
Yes, the path to the image file can be pre-defined.
Please open the registration editor and change to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning ROM\Image
Now enter a character sequence at the variable Path , e.g.: D:\.
This question is of interest if Nero has crashed during burning and the files saved temporarily are not deleted.
Please look in the following directories:
The path to the cache directory can be found in File->Preferences->Cache .
The files are then saved in the temp directory if the cache directory does not exist or is set incorrectly. In TEMP-Variable it says haw to find out the path to the temp directory.
If the temp directory does not exist, then the files are located in the Nero directory. If you don't know where NERO is installed, then you can use Start->Search->Files/Folders to search for NERO.EXE.
Then an image file will have been created. You can find out the path to the image by starting Nero and clicking in the Icon to copy a CD. Under the registration card image you can determine the path to the last image saved.
At the moment the answer is no. In the near future there are no plans to provide support for these systems.
The current Nero version or the Nero driver does not yet support Windows 2000. This will be the case as soon as Windows 2000 can officially be obtained.
If you are using an Adaptec SCSI hostadapter, then by updating the WinASPI drivers for Windows 2000 you can use Nero in Windows 2000 as a general rule.
(Windows NT5)
The current Nero-version 4.0 has been tested by us with regards to processing data after the year 1999. We can make the following statements on the "Year 2000" problems:
CDs burned using Nero with year digits in the next century should be readable without any problems not only in Windows 95/98 but also in Windows NT 4.0 or newer. However, please note that Windows 3.1 and also older DOS version can no longer correctly process dates after the year 1999. This is due to limitations on the part of the vendor Microsoft. If you should come across problems reading CDs burned with Nero under this (or even older) operating systems, then these problems are due to the DOS and Windows errors mentioned and problems caused by Nero .
