• If you use a mainboard with a VIA chip set and Windows 95/98, then please download the newest VIA drivers. Depending on the operating system, download the VIA 4-in-1 driver or only the IDE busmaster driver and the VIA IRQ miniport driver by VIA: Refer to:

http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/index.htm

• Please check if the WinASPI-Drivers are correct installed. To test, please download the software under ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/pub/BBS/win95/aspichk.exe .
• In some cases Windows does not start up because the drivers for CD changers cause problems. Please remove the following drivers:

NECATAPI.VXD, ATAPCHNG.VXD, TORISAN3.VXD

These drivers can be found in the Windows\System\IOSUBSYS directory.

• Sony 928E with firmware 1.1e (or Hi-Val CDU928E). Windows 95/98 gets hung up after run up.

Please click on firmware Update to 1.1n

• Have you got InCD installed?

If yes, then please update to InCD 1.3.120 or higher. Please contact InCD@ahead.de

• Is one of the following programs installed?
• SAI FormaterOne Pro DVD?
• CD Quick Cache

If yes, please deinstall these programs to be able to use Nero .

• If you get the following error message when booting (after Windows has already completed its run up):

The exceptional error OE has occurred:

This was called from 04AF:0000129A

Please check if you also get the error message after deinstalling InCD / PrassiCD (in Start->Settings->Control Panel->Software)

• Adaptec DirectCD is installed. In many cases Nero and Adaptec DirectCD / Easy CD do not run on the same computer. This problem can often be resolved by removing the file SCSI1HLP.VXD from the system.
• The following problem is not necessarily NERO specific:

The computer crashes on booting with a Fatal Exception Error if no medium is inserted in the IDE CD-ROM drive or the Iomega IDE ZIP drive.

• The following problem is also not caused by Nero:

When starting Windows 98 the following error message appears:

Error in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ShellExt\target.dll.

Missing entry:CDPlayNotify

This error message appears if you use the CD Player Auto Extender from the Windows 95 Powertoys. For more information go to

• The following error message appears independently of Nero:

You are using Windows 98 and have got a DVD drive and get the following error message when booting:

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C143EADA in VXD CDVSD(01) + 00001CFA. This was called from 0028:C18413E8 in VXD voltrack(04)+ 00000A18. It may be possible to continue normally.

This is a problem caused by certain miniport drivers. At the moment, AGAATAPI.MPD and IDEATAPI.MPD are known as possible culprits. It helps to update the CDVSD.VXD file.

• If you have connected an Adaptec U2W SCSI hostadapter, please make sure that you replace the miniport driver 7800w9x.exe with the latest version available. The drivers included in Windows 95/98/98SE does not work properly.

In this case please download the following file: ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/pub/BBS/win95/7800w9x.exe

Warning: If you are using Windows 98SE :The driver AIC78U2.MPD included in Windows 98SE has the version number 3.02 4.10.2222 and the newer driver the version number3 4.10.2000. This is the reason that the assistant for the device-driver reports that the current driver is newer than the new one. So please update the driver with the option Show a list of the drivers in a certain directory to be selected and not the recommended option Look for a driver which is better than the one being currently used (recommended).

• If you have installed the Intel Busmaster driver (v 3.01) and use a Creative Labs SB32 or an AWE32 / AWE64, then there is a port conflict

In the Device Manager, change the I/O address of the Creative WAVE Synthesizer from 620 to 640 (basic configuration 1 and sometimes basic configuration 2).

• If you have installed Windows 98 on top of Windows 95, then please check if there are any drivers installed which are not applicable for Windows 98.
• The following problem is also not caused by Nero .

When starting Windows 95 the computer gets hung-up if the Panasonic "BIG 5" 5-disc CD-ROM has been installed
