If Nero and/or Windows (95/98/NT) does not recognize an inserted CD:

• If you are still using Windows 95 (not 98), then you should use the newest driver versions of ESDI_506.PDR and VOLTRACK.VXD. To do so, download the following file

• If you are using a CD changer:

Nero can currently only contact the first position in the drive of a CD changer. It is not yet known when this problem will be solved.

Comment: If this problem occurs generally under Windows 95, then you should download the following update:

http://support.microsoft.com/download/support/mslfiles/Cdchnger.exe

• An inserted CD is often or always recognized as being an audio CD.

Please read on in: A data CD appears in Explorer as an audio CD.

• If in NT, the Symbios SYM22801 dual channel SCSI controller is being used, then the Adaptec WinASPI driver will cause problems. Please download the following WinASPI driver and install it:

ftp://ftp.lsil.com/pub/symchips/scsi/drivers/Windows_Drivers/WindowsNT/I386/Tools/ntaspi.exe

• If you are using Windows NT and Nero can not see the data on the CD, then you should check if the audio CD player has been started, as this program requires exclusive access to the CD drive. Apart from that, the following error message would appear in Windows Explorer:

<driver letter>:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect.

The system cannot find the drive specified.

The device is not ready.

The problem can thus be solved if the Audio CD Player is not active.

• For CDs with both data and audio tracks, Windows NT only recognizes the audio-track. Please read the following article on this:

• When trying to access a CD in Windows NT, this error message appears:

<CD-ROM drive>:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect.

or

Drive not accessible.

Presumably FlexiCD of the Windows 95 Powertoys has been installed. Please read the following article:

• When trying to access a CD in Windows NT, this error message appears:

D:\ is not accessible.

The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupt.

Presumably the CD-ROM drive was included after the installation of Windows NT. Please read the following article on this:

• If you are using a Philips CDD3610, HP 7100, HP 7200 or a compatible device and your CD Writer has got problems recognizing the CD, you also get read errors and burning is being done uncleanly, then apparently it is supposed to help to replace the spring with the wpring out of a ball-point pen (You do this at your own risk!).
