Presumably one of the following two reasons will apply:

• Presumably in the start files CONFIG.SYS / AUTOEXEC.BAT CD-ROM drivers are loaded and the CD-ROM has been given the device name CDROM.

Solution: Please use another device name. 

Procedure:

You will find the following line in the file C:\CONFIG.SYS (open the file with an editor)

device=c:\<treibername>.sys /D:CDROM

Please rename CDROM to CDROM1.

Now open the file C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT with an editor. There you will usually find the following line(or something similar)

MSCDEX /D:CDROM

Here you also need to rename CDROM to CDROM1. Now restart the system. After this you can install Nero .

Caution: Real-mode drivers like this can disrupt problem-free operation of Nero if Windows can not deactivate the drivers cleanly. Therefore, as a general rule, drivers should be dispensed with

• Nero has already been installed once. When opening Help, a hidden GID is written which can not be overwritten by the installer.

Solution: As of Nero 4.0.0.3 this problem has been solved or delete the GID files which Nero are in this directory or remove the attribute hidden.

• A previous Nero 4.0 version has already been installed and you are carrying out an update. And the CoverEditor has either been removed or was never installed.

Solution: Please download the newest version of Nero .

• A previous Nero 4.0 version has already been installed and the features window for as least one of the CD-ROM drives is open.

Solution: Please close the open features window of the CD-ROM drive.

ISSET_SE caused a general protection fault in module <filename> at <address>

This problem occurs under the following circumstances:

• Norton AntiVirus version 4.04 has been installed and Norton AutoProtect is active (which also affects non-executable files).
• You are using a LiveUpdate by Norton AntiVirus to download an updated version of Norton Antivirus.
• You have got Microsoft Intellipoint installed and the Point32 program is running at the moment.
• Microsoft IntelliMouse or Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball Software is installed on your computer and the MsWheel program is active at the moment.

For Norton Anrivirus there is an update on their ftp page which solves the problem.

The error can occur under certain circumstances if there is no TEMP directory or if the directory is not empty. Please create the TEMP directory and set up a TEMP Variable (or make a reference to the TEMP directory).

If you are working in NT, all applications should be closed, in particular 16Bit applications.

ISSET_SE An error has occurred in your application

On confirming with cancel or ignore, the error message appears:

ISSET_SE caused an general protection violation in module SETUP.EXE at ...

Please open the file CONFIG.NT (WinNT\System32 directory) and remove all unusual characters in all lines (usually in the lines which starts with FILES=). Please do not open this file with Word or any other word processing program but open it with a text editor which can read and also write DOS text! The number which should be entered after FILES, should be between 100 and 250 depending on the system.

These wrong characters are added for example when installing an HP Scanjet.

Setup can not decompress and copy all program files necessary to continue with the installation. Contact your software dealer. Error 112

You will get this error message if the TEMP-variable is not set, if it points at a directory which does not exist or if the drive on which the TEMP directory was set up is full.

As Windows sets this variable during installation, as a general rule the drive in which the TEMP-directory has been set up is full. You can determine the TEMP-directory by entering the command "SET TEMP" in the DOS input request.

FileSetPerformEz: general file transfer error -2

or

FileSetPerformEz: An error has occurred while copying. -2

Reason: The destination directory of Nero can be found directly under the main directory. Please reinstall Nero (e.g.: in C:\Programs\Nero and not after C:\Nero). In the current Nero version this problem has been solved.

(zero) can not be found

NERO-BURNING ROM 4.0 COULD NOT BE FOUND

Reason: The path to Nero.exe has been removed from the registration or is wrong. This path has to be corrected:Please open the registration file and change to the following key or, if applicable, create it.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App paths\nero.exe

Enter the correct path there.

install.dll could not be found

Reason: too little memory available on the harddisk(please delete some files (10-20MB))

Presumably you have Outlook 98 installed on your computer which is attached to a Microsoft Exchange Server.

Please close Outlook 98 before carrying out Nero the installation.

• This problem can occur if an antivirus program is installed which checks all files which are opened/read/written for viruses.
• This problem can occur if Lotus Notes Server is installed.

• This problem occurs if Stacker 4.1 is installed. Its driver vstacker.386 causes this problem. According to the Knowledge Base by Installshield, you should replace this driver with the driver from version 4.0.
• This problem can occur if the installation is started via the Exe Builder.

• Should the installation be carried out via Novell Networks?

As several Novell Networks versions can not handle long file names/directory names, please select a name for the destination directory which is not longer than 8.3 characters ( also applies to all intermediate directories)

• if InstallShield was active -> deactivate it.

(only ALT+F4 of ESC ends the installation)

The installation program of Nero (up to 4.0.0.6) reacts in this way if under Windows a language which is unrecognizable for Nero is installed. Please set the language of Windows for the installation of Nero to English (is possible without restarting, in Start->Settings->Control Panel->Regional Settings) or download a newer Nero version. After the installation is completed the language can be reset to the language wanted.

For one user Windows appeared not to have been installed properly as reinstalling Windows solved the problem.

ne4030up.exe is not a valid application for Windows

The download of Nero didn't work. Please download Nero again.

Error 3 when copying the application files.

C:\WIN98\TEMP\NERO.40\NCoverEd.exe

The problem occurs if you update from an older Nero 4.0 version to a version with CoverEditor. Nero will run, but not the CoverEditor. You can solve this problem as follows:

1. Start Explorer
2. Change into the ahead directory in which the Nero directory can be found.
3. Create a directory in this directory with the name CoverEditor .

• Please check if there is enough free harddisk memory available on the destination drive.
• Please check if the TEMP Variable has been set correctly, i.e. points towards an existing and describable directory and that there is enough free memory on the harddisk.

This phenomenon is caused by Windows exactly at the point at which a program called SETUP.EXE is started. the phenomenon does not occur if the name SETUP.EXE is not used but instead the name TEST.EXE
